This Morgaine necklace features imagery from an 18th-century French petit feu faience plate. At its center is a flaming heart accompanied by handwritten text, a visual language used in French decorative ceramics to express devotion, longing, and emotional truth through symbol rather than scene.
The inscription reads:
“Je brûle d’amour pour toi, Duarérisse.”
— “I burn with love for you, Duarérisse.”
Set on bronze and finished with an opal drop, the piece feels intimate and declarative, like a private confession preserved in glaze and fire.

French petit feu decoration allowed for fine line work and expressive motifs that went beyond ornament alone. Flaming hearts were commonly used as emblems of ardor, fidelity, and emotional sincerity—images meant to be read as much as admired. I was drawn to the vulnerability of the message here, and paired it with opal for its shifting light and associations with feeling and inner life. A small, heartfelt talisman, speaking softly but with conviction.
